Celebrating Cultural Diversity – Black History Month

At Pamodzi Creatives, we believe that our differences make us stronger. Inspired by the spirit of Ubuntu — “I am because we are” — we create opportunities for people from different cultures, backgrounds, and lived experiences to connect, collaborate, and learn from one another.
Through creative projects, community events, and cross-sector partnerships, we champion intersectional approaches that celebrate the many identities that shape who we are. By bringing diverse voices together, we help build understanding, belonging, and a stronger sense of community.
Black Excellence
Our annual Black Excellence event is a vibrant celebration of Black achievement, culture, creativity, and leadership. Bringing together people of all backgrounds, the event honours inspiring individuals, showcases talent, sparks meaningful conversations, and creates opportunities for connection and learning.
Black Excellence is more than an event—it is a celebration of heritage, a platform for positive change, and a reminder that when communities come together, everyone thrives.

Girls Night In

Girls Night In is a storytelling event curated for young women and girls, designed to build confidence, spark imagination and inspire.
Roni (Edwards-Wilson) and Shamila Dhana host the event, holding authentic and courageous conversations with local inspirational women who have faced challenges, emerged stronger and are in a powerful position to role model that strength to the next generation. While the event creates opportunities for young women and girls to learn from experienced role models, it also celebrates the value of intergenerational exchange, recognising that older generations can learn just as much from the perspectives, experiences and aspirations of young people.

Kambani

Kambani means “Let’s Talk Together.” Kambani is a community storytelling event that brings people together through shared food, culture and conversation. Centred around a chosen theme, local individuals share their lived experiences and perspectives, creating opportunities for connection, learning and understanding. The event also raises funds for Haven Women’s Drop-In Centre, supporting its important work with women in our community.

Supporting Local Organisations – Haven Women’s Drop in center

Haven is the first ever female drop-in referral-only service for women in Portsmouth who have experienced gender-based violence and Pamodzi was honoured to have Haven founders attend the award event and introduce us to some of the warrior Queens that they work with. Have was co-founded by Portsmouth City of Sanctuary (PCoS), Harbour Church -VISTA, SPA 61 projects, and The Medaille Trust’s Moving-On Project.

HAVEN has supported over 250 women since opening its doors in May 2021. The group provides a safe, confidential space for women, who are treated to a lovely brunch and activities such as creative workshops.
